Staying Sane 101

Rate: 10 Flag

Staying sane in stressful conditions requires:

1) Noticing daily what can make you pause, breathe deep and smile.

I have my beloved creek and this view from my front window:

What regularly makes you pause and smile?

2) Calming, mind-numbing creative outlets in times of turmoil.

I have been drawing faces.  Row upon row of faces with my $5 box of 50 Crayola Colored Pencils.

Some are scary:

What mind-numbing things do YOU do?

3)  Scheduled, fun outings to look forward to.  For me, experiencing art--theater, indie movies, etc.-- is critical to my well-being, but I keep forgetting that.

I live in a community where artists put on events using huge puppet boats.

These events wake me out of my stressed out stupor.

What are you looking forward to?

Play along with me, please.
why do we keep posting on a site that only works for such brief, intermittent spells?
I love those face drawings. Doing that exact thing was what started me down the road of becoming an artist. And the crow boat is incredibly beautiful and eerie. I want to move to where you live! Seems like a beautiful place to be an artist.

Oh to blow off steam, I read OS.
Sometimes its so easy to forget those things that bring us peace. For the past few days for me its simply been sitting on my deck in the sun for an hour...because this is the first time the sun has been out (and, I, can't get out further than my deck). Your sounding more positive, Caroline. Good.
I love what you do, how you do it and will try hard to play along tomorrow!
Your view is breathtaking, your drawings very cool!
I love your faces and I LOVEEEEEEEE your stream. I stayed off of here for a few hours because it was driving me insane. Why do we do it is right?
I guess its like looking for a better job.
maybe.. always hoping something better comes along.
I wonder what keeps me sane. This place kept me sane. Now I look like your faces.:)
Rated with hugs
Wow those puppet boats are awesome, and your crayola renderings are quite good too. Everytime I pick up a crayon, I'm nine years old again...love crayons!
Ooh - I love the puppet show - and this is a great idea!

I'll play along, since I am all for stress reduction in any way possible:

What regularly makes me pause and smile? I like to think I can appreciate lots of small things. A short list: the happy look dogs have when on walks, happy coincidences, remembered jokes or funny movie lines, looking forward to writing something, my cat (thoughts of and actually being with him).

Calming, mind-numbing creative outlets in times of turmoil.: Thinking of how our apartment should look when we finally remodel it and drawing awful, out-of-scale blueprints; coloring a coloring book featuring princesses (haven't done this in a while); writing a happy, fun post about something light.

What are you looking forward to? - The weekend! My next vacation (when??), a good grilled cheese sandwich (tomorrow's lunch plan), possibly getting air conditioning, wearing the new necklaces I bought tonight near Chinatown, someday being re-inspired to write a novel.

Thanks - this was fun, and I hope you remain at a calmer, happier place. There are so many great things to do and look forward to in this life; they provide so much comfort for so many, and I'm happy it's the same for you.
I'll play!
1) Purring cats curled up in bed with me, the nickers of the horses when I go out to feed them in the morning, the fact that FINALLY I have a hydrangea in the yard that made it through the winter.
2) I shovel horse poop - lots and lots of horse poop.
3) Being able to ride the horses this summer and my college room mate coming to visit in June!
Tomorrow is Friday which always makes me happy. The weekend is supposed to be sunny and warm. I've been promised a fresh strawberry pie with local strawberries. I'm going to work in the garden, read my new book and think of things to write about. I really like your faces, Caroline.~r
Those boats are truly awesome! And now you've made me miss coloring. Both of my children are artists and upstairs is an entire studio of oil paints, colored pencils, charcoal, pastels, watercolors and ink...but those are pretty useless to me. I need crayons!
Small things keep me sane - like getting back to simple routines I've been away from. Hearing OSman purr sitting next to me as I write or read, looking out the patio and enjoying the first green of spring, savoring a red delicious as it releases its flavor between my teeth. Baking date muffins or a blueberry pie . .

I am looking forward to the last day of school. :)

And we keep posting because of the people here. But it's driving me nuts!
I love to bury my nose in a bouquet of lilacs.
thanks for playing along, these comments were fun to read.
