Staying sane in stressful conditions requires:
1) Noticing daily what can make you pause, breathe deep and smile.
I have my beloved creek and this view from my front window:
What regularly makes you pause and smile?
2) Calming, mind-numbing creative outlets in times of turmoil.

I have been drawing faces. Row upon row of faces with my $5 box of 50 Crayola Colored Pencils.
Some are scary:
What mind-numbing things do YOU do?
3) Scheduled, fun outings to look forward to. For me, experiencing art--theater, indie movies, etc.-- is critical to my well-being, but I keep forgetting that.
I live in a community where artists put on events using huge puppet boats.

These events wake me out of my stressed out stupor.
What are you looking forward to?

Oh to blow off steam, I read OS.
Your view is breathtaking, your drawings very cool!
I guess its like looking for a better job.
maybe.. always hoping something better comes along.
I wonder what keeps me sane. This place kept me sane. Now I look like your faces.:)

I'll play along, since I am all for stress reduction in any way possible:
What regularly makes me pause and smile? I like to think I can appreciate lots of small things. A short list: the happy look dogs have when on walks, happy coincidences, remembered jokes or funny movie lines, looking forward to writing something, my cat (thoughts of and actually being with him).
Calming, mind-numbing creative outlets in times of turmoil.: Thinking of how our apartment should look when we finally remodel it and drawing awful, out-of-scale blueprints; coloring a coloring book featuring princesses (haven't done this in a while); writing a happy, fun post about something light.
What are you looking forward to? - The weekend! My next vacation (when??), a good grilled cheese sandwich (tomorrow's lunch plan), possibly getting air conditioning, wearing the new necklaces I bought tonight near Chinatown, someday being re-inspired to write a novel.
Thanks - this was fun, and I hope you remain at a calmer, happier place. There are so many great things to do and look forward to in this life; they provide so much comfort for so many, and I'm happy it's the same for you.
1) Purring cats curled up in bed with me, the nickers of the horses when I go out to feed them in the morning, the fact that FINALLY I have a hydrangea in the yard that made it through the winter.
2) I shovel horse poop - lots and lots of horse poop.
3) Being able to ride the horses this summer and my college room mate coming to visit in June!

And we keep posting because of the people here. But it's driving me nuts!
