- I started writing when I was eight years old. It was a catharsis and a means of escape from the world where I was being sexually abused at home. After 40 years of writing for newspapers and four books, I have come full circle. My latest book – Healing in the Hurting Places – is an inspirational true story of how to heal and discover the life you were always meant to have. I travel and give talks; my goal is to bring hope, to let people know that they are not alone. We all hurt. Most of us have been through some trauma in our lives – be it a divorce, a health crisis, a miserable childhood – it doesn’t have to be abuse. But there’s another side to life and my goal, through writing, is to help people discover it. Visit the website for the new book at www.healinginthehurtingplaces.org or my other links below. The View From My Window - Open Call
I consider myself a realist. I see a glass with water in it. And it makes me thirsty.
Six months ago, I felt like I was on top of my game. That life was turning around. That there really was a silver lining behind those clouds.
I grew up in the… Read full post »
The Betrayal of Cancer
Malignant.
There was something incredibly validating when the surgeon said it, having received the final pathology report. I had known for months that there was something very wrong in my body, but nothing was showing up on tests. I had not only suspected cancer, but knew it, deep down.… Read full post »
The Awkwardness of Cancer
Some words just lend themselves to the sound of their name; words like splash . . . fizz . . .growl.
Words like awkward.
Until the aftermath of my diagnosis, I never would have associated the word “awkward” with cancer. But it perfectly describes my “new normal.” Who… Read full post »
