History Of Fire

Ignition starts as smoke
then flame
with its insatiable appetite
consuming all it is given way to
and more, if allowed;
gluttony lives within
the red, orange, yellow flames
that engulf like an overpowering love
leaving nothing but ash as a signature,
that it had once moved through this place
sucking the life out of everything.

And as quickly as it appeared,
it fades in its brilliance
only to smolder like some
unforgiving hate
which stirs deep in the hearts of man,
emitting a plume of gray
spiraling skyward
until all grows cold
and the beast sleeps.
