Bio
My wife of 47+ years died at home with me at her side, on November 12, 2010. She and I, together with our children and many friends and relatives, fought her cancer for four years, seven months and a week. This blog acknowledges her courage and exemplary life. She taught us how to live, and she taught us how to die. The blog also honors the love she shared with everyone who knew her.I am a retired school counselor and college professor.

just another shortest day

like all the rest that have gone before

half the world arose

did what they do

to make it all mean

something

everyone else in the world

slept

they never saw it coming

like the rest of us

suddenly it. . .

Peace and love to you, Kathy.
John,a work of true art your words!!Wishes and so rated!!!
Well done!! I think you hit them all :)
Very good John
This was fun eh?
Oh rats!

The world is gonna end and I missed it......

;-)
.
Oh big smile, John! I'm SO happy you joined in!

We haven't had an Iron Poet Challenge for a while so I'm really glad JD got the ball rolling again! I hope it's as much fun for others to join in as it is for us to challenge one another and see that others join in!

I can't wait until I am in a position where I've responded to this challenge and then it will be ... WATCH OUT JD!!!!

: )
Great job John. You passed with flying colors.
@Skypixieo: You didn't miss it, because it hasn't happened yet!
Hell with rules, John ~ you said it well.
You get better line by line John.
Sooner than ya think.
It was fun, Stathi, thanks for the kind words.
Thanks, L. L., it was fun rounding all the bases.
Glad you like it, eh, MCS? High praise from the master.
Bet you could write something good about the end of the world, Sky--you live at the end of the world, don't you?
Too bad you will be one those who sleep through it, Kate:)
Like your attitude, Kim; are you taking this challenge?
Trilogy, your awesome poem inspired me; thanks.
Thanks, Rita, glad you like it.
You know how it goes, Mission; sometimes those lines just come flying in and we take the time to jot them down and organize them later--I think it's called writing:)
Like the ending a great deal...that last breath; the unspoken....
very nice!
Pensive Person, thanks for your nice comments. Something about not assuming that we'll necessarily know appeals to me, that, and half the people in the world will be asleep when it happens.
Will I be asleep, John? We hit December 21st down under before you do! I'm not sure of the workings of the Mayan calendar so I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if my American friends might be the ones that are wrong.
um ... that should say *wondering if my American friends might be the ones that are asleep!

Goodness me! Where did 'wrong' come from?? Sheesh! I think I need to go to bed earlier than what I've been doing!
John,
Yup, I live at the end of the world, all right. For 'Merikans, it's PAST the end of the world since it's further east than any part of the US.

Keep in mind that, while I live "at the end of the world", it is the OTHER end. At this end we have a wise old seafaring man who expresses our feelings perfectly....... "Mayans, schmeyans", says he!

.
Sky, you won't hone a half hour before the rest of us:)
Sky, you won't know!
John,
Where I live it is a full time zone - 1 hr - east of your eastern time zone. Then Newfoundland is another half zone, and half hour, further east still! Heck, I think that Kate, down under, might even share a time zone with us here in eastern Canada.
;-)
.
Agree with Kim....to hell with the rules when you write something this good!
Thanks so much for playing...and VERY well done!
Gosh, you make me blush, JD, nice to hear your words on the eve of my 75th birthday:)
I like how it avalanched to the en...
Blindream, thanks, I like the way you comme. . .
Haven't read the challenge, but I like this. No bang, no whimper, just...
Seems to me there's a moral here somewhere, Chicken; it may be that all of our worst fears end that way, nothing grand and Hollywoodey, just the next thing that was going to happen doesn't happen.
