Governor Romney just said, "rights dont come from government, they come from the creator." Ok. Then he says among those rights are "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Ok. Then he says, we in this country have these rights. Ok. But if these rights come from the creator, don't they extend to all people on the planet, at least? Why did the creator wait untl the creation of this country to extend these rights? Why are they limited to American citizens? What about people who come to this country illegally? If they have these rights from the creator, is it possible to make their immigration "illegal?"
Yep. These folk talk a good game about Christian values, but Mammon is their deity, pure and simple. What's funny to me (or would be funny if it didn't bode so poorly for our nation's future) is how many millions of our fellow citizens can't see through their transparent bullshit.
You brought up one of my favorite obsessions. Invisible bullshit. We can always see other's invisible bullshit, but apparently cannot see our own. I'm obsessed or nearly obsessed with what mine might be. As your comment suggests, many deny the existence or location of their own. In trying to be a fair self critic, I realize that mine must be around here somewhere.
Kosh made me aware of some of mine once. I am eternally grateful to him for it. He can explain it better than I can, but it involves my culture, and the importance of respect in it. All principles are valuable to a point, but they can be over applied. At least one aspect of my bullshit is the concern that people be respectful to one another. It is not as nice as it sounds. Over applied, it kind of distorts everything like pounds per square inch wll eventually crush a steel beam. My task is to be able to see and allow for a world that lacks an optimal level of respect, but is still just. I have a very difficult time seeing this, but I know what Kosh pointed out to me is accurate. Respect has its limits.
Now, plenty have attempted to point out my invisible bullshit. The vast majority of them were just full of shit themselves. Kosh taught me something though. If you dont know him, I recommend it. If you do, I recommend getting to know him better and arguing with him as much as possible. I can almost guarantee that you'll learn something.
