- Hello everyone. Welcome to my little corner of OS.
I'm young and therefore occasionally stupid, but even those who roll their eyes most often will tell you I don't (usually) mean any harm.
I love my horses His Klutziness and His Stubbornness, and my cats The Lover, The Bitch, The Dumbass and The Insanity. The Spousal Unit is somewhat lower on the list. ;)
I'm happy to be here, and look forward to learning and practicing a different kind of writing.

Waiting
I hate disappearing for stretches of time on OS. I feel like the world has passed me by, especially given that I’ve been gone for two weeks. There’s so much interesting writing here, and I feel deprived when I miss it.
But, sometimes life intrudes.… Read full post »
I'm an aunt
Today, ladies and gentlemen, is a very good day.
I am tired because it is midweek, and I hate the cold, gray crappy weather that is blanketing my lovely Colorado day.
But none of that matters, because at 1:26 this morning, my best… Read full post »
UPDATE: They found the UFO boy
UPDATE 4: The Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden has just said that Falcon Heene, 6, of Fort Collins, is safe and at home. Thank all the gods and goddesses. The kiddo was in a box in the attic above the garage. The house was searched twice, but evidently they missed him.… Read full post »
Cat antics, part 3: A horror story

Don't let that sweet, pretty face fool you...a demon lurks behind those blue eyes...
The night belongs to her.
She spends her days in slumber, lying in wait for the last rays of sunlight to streak across the sky.… Read full post »
Today, I am angry
Today, I am angry.
Although for some reason it doesn’t often shine through on OS, I am often angry. There is, I think, much to be angry about in our world.
Health care is important
" No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick. If you agree, please post this as your status for the rest of the day."
Via Leigh Bailey, as posted by Chuck/Mr. Mustard. Please all, post this too… Read full post »
A weekend at the rez
I am, like most Americans, a mutt. My family is comprised
primarily of Irish and lower Dutch on my mother’s side,
especially Irish. We are very Irish.
On my father’s side, however, I am one-quarter Native
American.
My tribe is Potawatomi, and I am of the Prairie band, which is
based… Read full post »
She was my daughter and her name was Holly
I remember the day I learned I was pregnant.
Rather, I remember the sensation of the cold hard bathroom tiles
under my knees as I vomited after learning I was pregnant. My hair
got caught in my lips, and I tried to regain control of my
trembling hand for long enough… Read full post »
I know something you don't know
So, I’m going to take a stab in the dark here; all my
fellow OSer’s have by now learned of the recent demise of pop
star and weird American icon Michael Jackson.
But what has not yet been made clear, what I alone am privy to, is
the true cause of… Read full post »
Some days I just love my horse more than others
“What a good boy you are!”
His Klutziness eyed me askance, and then closed
his eyes in pleasure as I began rubbing the spot just above his
right eye that he loves so much.
I am still floating on cloud nine two weeks
after the most su… Read full post »
Where I've been
In the span of three weeks, I have gone from
comfortable stability in my everyday routine to something vaguely
resembling chaos.
I have moved from a one-bedroom apartment to a
three-bedroom house.
My Spousal Unit and I have come down with
sinus… Read full post »
Springtime memory of love and loss
Every year about this time I think of him. I remember his brown eyes and slow, sweet smile, the understated confidence – I know who I am. Who are you?
He was my first love.
His name was Chris. We were just kids; he… Read full post »
A House! A House! My Kingdom (Apartment) for a House!
A house! A house! Finally, I have a house!
Well, okay, not yet. Technically, I’m
still living in the cute lil one-bedroom, one-bath apartment SU and
I got when we first moved in together.
But I see the future, and it has three bedrooms,
two bathrooms, a two-c… Read full post »
My pain
I love my mother. Really, I do. We get along
great most of the time and spend lots of time together hanging out
and talking.
But she doesn’t like my Spousal Unit.
She never has. Maybe she never will.
SU and I have been a… Read full post »

Cat antics, part 2.5: GAH GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!!
The ride to the vet was hell. Absolute and utter hell. The Bitch
was yowling, The Dumbass was shrieking, The Insanity was letting
out those long only-a-Siamese-could-make-that-noise howls and The
Lover was staring at me with a “you betrayed me”
expression on her face.
Thank heaven the ride… Read full post »
Cat antics, part 2
Vet day.
Y'know, I don't know why I hate myself so much. But I was evidently
due for some self-flagellation when I made the appointment with my
veterinarian to take all four of my kitties in for their annual
checkups on one day.
I thought I was being smart,… Read full post »

A dear friend of mine died last Friday. It was a slow decline over a period of months, but not really unexpected. Up until the end I prayed for a miracle, but it was too late.

I Call Bullshit!
Let me first say that I do not, in any way shape or form, condone what this young woman is accused of doing.
This story was on the Rocky Mountain News Web site this evening, when I happened to see it. I read it and winced. (You can too,… Read full post »
That's a walkish, if you don't mind
I lean on the rail with the other trainers and grooms, holding
my breath. I’m pressing my heels down a little and
unconsciously straightening my shoulders, willing Drama

It’s an unfortunate quirk that Drama Queen rides in the
biggest age division at th… Read full post »
A mixed bag, those breed shows
“But I WANT the blue ribbon! I work so much harder than
all these other kids! You know how much harder I work!”
“And what do you want me to do?” I asked in
exasperation. “Implement a sneak attack in the dead of night
to swap out your yellow ribbon for the… Read full post »
The humiliation of breeches, or the day I bared my ass
Whoever decided that the combination of skintight thin pants and knee-high black leather boots made for an attractive and stylish way to dress a horse person needs to be strung up by their thumbs.
I suppose it's partially my fault; I could've chosen to ride solely Western style. That… Read full post »
Cat antics, part 1
Cats are the oddest critters to ever be domesticated. I
mean, living with one cat is usually like living with a pleasantly
quiet roommate. Two, even. But up it to three adult cats with very
different personalities and one eight-month-old kitten who happens
to be Siamese, and you've just opene… Read full post »
