One Question: What Would You Change About Yourself?

Rate: 10 Flag

Hello friends, I have been away for many reasons but not because I don;t miss all of you kind people. I will return when things simmer down at my work. In the meantime, I wanted to share this wonderful documentary.  People with developmental disabilities were asked one question: "If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?"

Their responses are pretty great.  Sending good wishes to you all....

So sweet and touching. I love how many of them are satisfied with themselves. It's touching to me how many mentioned learning and remembering - I know some developmentally disabled people who are at the same time quite curious and intelligent, who love to learn.
I am not here a lot but so glad to see you back and that was so touching.
HUGGGGGGGGG
hi antionette - I was glad to see your face pop up in my feed!
I think it shows just how alike we all are.
Thanks, Antoinette ~ good to see you :-)
Sounds like cool movie! It seems the more we endure, the less we wish to change about ourselves, since that's the price we paid to become who we are.
Thanks for this and for keeping in touch, Antoinette. I hope things simmer down at work soon. As to change, I think many of these folks understand that the urge for personal change may too often come from a dissatisfied self and that self acceptance is most often the more realistic goal.
Love this! Thanks for posting. xxoo
Good to have you around!

Wonderful video. Thnaks for posting.

Good morning everyone!!! Thanks so much for your very sweet comments. I have actually been around more than you might think. Unfortunately those moraculous moments I could actually load a page were followed by not being able to log in and leave comments. It was actually the inability to interact with ou all that became difficult. Anyway, good to meet up with old friends!

Nerd Cred-- having no ego, as happens to many people with developmental disabilities--- is so very liberating. What an important lesson in experiencing satisfaction with who you are. I'd wish that for all of us. And I also about curiosity and intelligence, the desire to learn and grow.

Linda!!!! Good to see you!!! I will stop by in the next few days and catch up a bit. Hope all is well with you [Hugs]

Hi Caroline Marie, I have been following your adventures in life generally and most especially with Penny. I sense a real shift in your perspective and sense an inner core of peace resulting. Know you and Penny are frequently in my thoughts and prayers. Part of my work project that's kept me busy has me dealing with bullies in four middle school. A vexing problem, glad Penny has such a great mom.

Hi Kim -- yes indeed, we are all alike really. Good to see you! Tried catching up at the Truckstop but missed about 4000 posts. How've you been? Will have to come by with some pork products soon (although I am inching into veganism lately)

Greenheron--hope the last few months have treated you gently. I think you're so right. Perhaps the greatest gift is understanding how all our experiences have made us who we are -- and being satified and grateful for that.

Chicken Maan-- good to see you. Yes, it is true, what does being dissatisfied with ourselves (or others for that matter) get us except unhappiness?

Hi Christine!!! Glad you liked it!!!

Hi Torito, glad to be back. When I need a shot of history or political brilliance (and that's pretty much every day) I always try to stop by your site. Sometimes the OS Gods have obliged. Hope all is well.
ciao, signora!
Thanks for the lovely faces this morning ~
I love the hesitation ... and the thoughtfulness ... before anyone makes any attempt to reply. As they think, so do we. Lovely this, Antoinette.
Catch-22 so GOOD to see you!!! Beautiful faces aren't they? When I have a bad day lately, I turn on this video.

Annaliese, you caught that something I too loved so much, the hesitation, the LACK of the embarrassment of choice, the lack of desire to say a million things just off the tops of their heads. Pretty wonderful if we all saw each other this way yes?
I've MISSED you! I shall view those responses as soon as possible. One thing I know for sure, you have special insights into this subject, and I love you for constantly offering us all new ways of "seeing." Thank you and...come back again soon!
