This blog is about the journey from here to there. Early posts have devotional poetry and prose with scripture included. Many deal with the difficulty of having people in my life who are living with cancer and have died from cancer. Now I'm focusing on going back to college in my 50's and discovering a new path to direct my art--which is art therapy. _________________________________________ All of the artwork I created unless otherwise noted. If you'd like to buy one of my paintings or contact me to say oh, give me a million dollars to help me in my artistic endeavors : See my art and purchase prints here: orginals: merchandise: __________________________________________ The scriptures are usually taken from the New Revised Standard w/ apocrypha or the New King James.

The Tempo of a Soul

Rate: 12 Flag
columbia dancing

Dancing to the rhythm of heaven
Even at two, you worshipped
with a twirl and a leap
the choreography of a better world
pulses through your soul

How does one
whose very nature
is to the beat of a
sacred symphony
Fit into the timing of this world?
Faster, faster we ask our children to perform
as if our life depends on it.
Please God, we pray, just fix this so I can go on as usual.
We teach you morals and values and truths.
The way I've applied to my life is confronted at this moment.
Why did you do it this way? A cognizant chid asks.
Put on the hot seat by our own offspring.
Through the clear eyes of a child's perspective
burns deeper than expected

Love more

is the refrain.

What are you willing to give up for love?
Is the question I'm asked.

Are you willing to quit the job you waited so long for?

Are you willing to sell your house that you have been so comfortable in?

Are you willing to uproot to places unknown?

Are you willing to give up whatever it takes,
to see your child become who she is meant to be,
including your own dreams?

Without love there is nothing.....

What better way to see heaven on earth
than through a child.
May we all see the unique tempo of our children
and let them sing the symphony they were born for.

Anne, what a beautiful poem in which the form fits the sentiments expressed. I wish you all the happiness and fulfillment of your dreams in the new year.
Happy New Year! I love this poem. It is beautiful, and then some. R
FunsunA, my dreams are for a calm and happy and secure child.

Dave. thank you.
You & I have the same dreams.
I thought you might be able to relate Caroline.
Lean back, and let her lead the way. Beautiful in all it's hopes and wishes.
Rita, spoken as one with experience. And yes I'm trying....
I love this, and especially the refrain. You remind of the sunshine in my daughter's face - even after cloudy days or storms, the sun returns, and all is well with life, no matter what.
Thanks Anne, I'm missing them today.
What love I hear in your voice and from your heart for your child, all her dreams, all her hopes, all she tries to learn and all you hope to give. Thinking especially of you as I read these words.
Kim and Anna, good to hear and see your smiling and supportive faces. It means so much. It's one thing to bear ones own pain but when our children get to a certain age where a bandaid and a kiss doesn't work for their pain anymore and you're asking the child to perhaps be more mature than some adults around them, and to do more inner work, it's tough. It's heartbreaking. But she'll be stronger for it. (I'm giving myself my own pep talk now)
Kathy, thanks, I've wanted to write something for a while and this just touches the surface, one day I'll get it all out.
Sometimes you even give up a profession you love to provide a better life to your child (that’s my story). Regarding your question “How does one whose very nature is to the beat of a sacred symphony fit into the timing of this world?” I don’t have a good answer but maybe the fast tempo of this world is purifying us as long as we maintain our inner calm. Easier said than done. I have had difficulties in this area recently.

Thanks for your contribution to the discussion on spiritual surrender versus fight. Your comment was very meaningful.
I've asked myself almost the exact same questions and my answers were 'yes' too ... for I believe you are right ... "Without love there is nothing".

Beautiful hopes and dreams ... may they yield the richest gifts of love.
Suresh, It's such a joy to have these thoughtful discussions on OS. And to support each other in our challenges.

Little Kate, absolutely without love, at times though I feel like the sacred fool, as others chastise me for the decisions I make. If it weren't for God and prayer I don't know what I'd do.
Your thoughts and sacrifices are monumental. I wish you were my mother and I was the little girl. Hope your having a wonderful New Year and that it continues all through out the year...
Algis, I wouldn't call them monumental, but I'm having to dig deep in faith to believe (atleast finacially) that it's all going to work out. I know she will do better she's a smart girl and learning ways to overcome everyday. You have a happy New Year too!
My body is tingling with goose bumps. I love this poem. My favorite line was this:"May we all see the unique tempo of our children
and let them sing the symphony they were born for."
You are someone I want to read more of!
