Psalm 34

Abigail's husband,
an ill-tempered sort,
insulted the king and his army.
She, being wise
and a servant of God,
bestowed her hospitality
on the king and his men.
On her knees she offered food.
With humility and grace
she interceded
and took blame on herself
for her husband's actions.
Abigail saved her people from harm
and the king from vengeance
and blood guilt.1
In Egypt,
anger pursued the escaped slaves.
As they passed through the parted sea,
behind them their pursuers
met their end.2
Famished from the journey,
the Israelites were provided
with nourishment from God.
Served bitter water turned sweet,
manna and quail,
The Hospitable One
provided freedom
and sustenance.3
Even though some of us
insult our King
Jesus the Christ
still invites us to dine with Him.
First reconciling ourselves to Him
by repenting,
then receiving Him
in the Eucharist.
Oh Lord, You show us
time and time again.
Though we are
as the prodigal son4
You're always ready
to receive us with open arms!
All we have to do is say Yes.
I'm sorry and Yes,
Yes Lord
take me up in Your Arms!
Yes Father,
I'll be glad to accept your invitation!
Yes, my Love,
I will keep the company of those who know You
at my table, and invite those who don't
to taste and see.
I'm serving Glory at my table
won't you join me?

11 Samuel 25: 22.God do so to David and more also, if by morning I leave so much as one male of all who belong to him." 23.When Abigail saw David, she hurried and alighted from the donkey, and fell before David on her face, bowing to the ground. 24.She fell at his feet and said, "Upon me alone, my lord, be the guilt; please let your servant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your servant. 25.My lord, do not take seriously this ill-natured fellow, Nabal; for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him; but I, your servant, did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent. 26."Now then, my lord, as the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, since the Lord has restrained you from bloodguilt and from taking vengeance with your own hand, now let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be like Nabal.27.And now let this present that your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow my lord.28.Please forgive the trespass of your servant; for the Lord will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the Lord; and evil shall not be found in you so long as you live. 29.If anyone should rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living under the care of the Lord your God; but the lives of your enemies he shall sling out as from the hollow of a sling. 30.When the Lord has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you prince over Israel, 31.my lord shall have no cause of grief, or pangs of conscience, for having shed blood without cause or for having saved himself. And when the Lord has dealt well with my lord, then remember your servant." 32.David said to Abigail, "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today! 33.Blessed be your good sense, and blessed be you, who have kept me today from bloodguilt and from avenging myself by my own hand! 34.For as surely as the Lord the God of Israel lives, who has restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, truly by morning there would not have been left to Nabal so much as one male." 35.Then David received from her hand what she had brought him; he said to her, "Go up to your house in peace; see, I have heeded your voice, and I have granted your petition."

2Wisdom of Solomon 19:1.But the ungodly were assailed to the end by pitiless anger, for God knew in advance even their future actions: 2.how, though they themselves had permitted your people to depart and hastily sent them out, they would change their minds and pursue them. 3.For while they were still engaged in mourning, and were lamenting at the graves of their dead, they reached another foolish decision, and pursued as fugitives those whom they had begged and compelled to leave. 4.For the fate they deserved drew them on to this end, and made them forget what had happened, in order that they might fill up the punishment that their torments still lacked, 5.and that your people might experience an incredible journey, but they themselves might meet a strange death. 6.For the whole creation in its nature was fashioned anew, complying with your commands, so that your children might be kept unharmed. 7.The cloud was seen overshadowing the camp, and dry land emerging where water had stood before, an unhindered way out of the Red Sea, and a grassy plain out of the raging waves, 8.where those protected by your hand passed through as one nation, after gazing on marvelous wonders. 9.For they ranged like horses, and leaped like lambs, praising you, O Lord, who delivered them. 10.For they still recalled the events of their sojourn, how instead of producing animals the earth brought forth gnats, and instead of fish the river spewed out vast numbers of frogs. 11.Afterward they saw also a new kind of birds, when desire led them to ask for luxurious food; 12.for, to give them relief, quails came up from the sea. 13.The punishments did not come upon the sinners without prior signs in the violence of thunder, for they justly suffered because of their wicked acts; for they practiced a more bitter hatred of strangers.
3Exodus 15:24.And the people complained against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" 25.He cried out to the Lord; and the Lord showed him a piece of wood; he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the Lord made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he put them to the test. 26.He said, "If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you."
Exodus 16:11.The Lord spoke to Moses and said, 12."I have heard the complaining of the Israelites; say to them, "At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread; then you shall know that I am the Lord your God.' " 13.In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14.When the layer of dew lifted, there on the surface of the wilderness was a fine flaky substance, as fine as frost on the ground. 15.When the Israelites saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, "It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
4Luke 15:11.Then Jesus said, "There was a man who had two sons. 12.The younger of them said to his father, "Father, give me the share of the property that will belong to me.' So he divided his property between them. 13.A few days later the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant country, and there he squandered his property in dissolute living. 14.When he had spent everything, a severe famine took place throughout that country, and he began to be in need. 15.So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed the pigs. 16.He would gladly have filled himself with the pods that the pigs were eating; and no one gave him anything. 17.But when he came to himself he said, "How many of my father's hired hands have bread enough and to spare, but here I am dying of hunger! 18.I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; 19.I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands." ' 20.So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him. 21.Then the son said to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' 22.But the father said to his slaves, "Quickly, bring out a robe?the best one?and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23.And get the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; 24.for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!' And they began to celebrate.

G-D in the repectful way of Jewish tradition. Here is the poem to which you refer:
Title: Job's Luck
Author: Samuel Taylor Coleridge [More Titles by Coleridge]
Sly Beelzebub took all occasions
To try Job's constancy and patience;
He took his honours, took his health,
He took his children, took his wealth,
His camels, horses, asses, cows--
And the _sly_ Devil did not take his spouse.
But Heaven that brings out good from evil,
And loves to disappoint the Devil,
Had predetermined to restore
_Twofold_ all Job had before,
His children, camels, horses, cows,--
_Short-sighted_ Devil, not to take his _spouse_!
1799.
Job's wife was not supportive at all-- she was down right mean, and contributed to his pain. Not at all like Abigail.
Thanks for stopping by!
This post needs personal reflection.
