Twenty years ago, the Yankees drafted the player who would become the cornerstone of their franchise, the man who would be a key cog in their return to World Series glory, and the only man to amass 3,000 hits while wearing pinstripes. On June 1, 1992, the Yankees drafted their future Captain, perennial All-Star and future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter.
Perhaps it is fitting, therefore, that his namesake, my son, celebrates his fifth birthday today.
Happy Birthday, DJ, you wear the name well.
