I'm a high school English teacher who teaches on the South Side of Chicago. I'm from Arkansas. I'm a white lady whose last name is Japanese (thanks to my Japanese Yankee husband). My brother in law says I'm a sitcom waiting to happen. I'm married and have a little girl who is three and a half, and a baby boy who is nineteen months old. I have lost 76 pounds in the last year and a half, and barefoot running is my new obsession. So much to share!

Welcome Hideo!

Here is Hideo William -- he was born via c-section at 6:26 am on Saturday, December 20th. He is 6 lbs 10 1/2 oz, and is 19 inches long. And he's super cute. He was a little early, so that's why he has the nasal cannula and feeding tube.

I never imagined I'd have a c-section -- I've always been a big proponent of natural childbirth. But my water broke at about 2:30 Sat morning, and Hideo was breech. He was in the worst possible position for birth -- his head was on one side of me and his feet on the other, with his back in between -- as if he were laying across me. I don't know how that could have been comfortable for him! Since my water had broken, they couldn't try to reposition him. And since he was in such a screwy position, I had to have a classic c-section, were they have to cut vertically into my uterus. Ouch.

So it was the most invasive surgery I can imagine, and I'm in some pain. I can't drive for four weeks (ugh) and can't pick up my toddler -- who is very confused about why Mommy spent four days in the hospital. But we'll be ok. I think once Hideo is home, Emiko will catch on and be fine.

Hideo is still in the NICU, but gets to come home tomorrow! He no longer has the nasal cannula or the feeding tube -- but he still has a bit of jaundice. That's why he couldn't come home with me today. I'm ready to get him home!

I'll have more pics posted tomorrow -- just you wait!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I just got my present!

What a lovely holiday present. Hope you heal quickly.
He is beautiful and you look so happy. C-sections do hurt so don't feel bad if you need some help with the pain.

That was a lovely Christmas present.
Wow, you were worried about your water breaking and it did. Hideo is beautiful! Huge hugs and congratulations to you. I'll look forward to your pictures.
This is totally awesome. And I'm even more pleased that he was born on MY BIRTHDAY. That is an excellent sign.
Congratulations! Great Baby!
Thank you for everyone's comments! I'm ready to have my little boy at home with me. And ame inman -- I don't know where you saw that c-sections don't hurt. They hurt a lot -- like hell. I can't believe how much this hurts. Because I had the classic c-section, I have been reminded again and again that my body cannot go through labor; I'll have to have a c-section with any subsequent birth so my uterus doesn't rupture. Lovely! We'd already decided two kids was good -- now I'm totally convinced.

Monique, Happy Birthday!
Well, I think it needs a bit more fur, but that's just my opinion.

Congrats and all the best!
Beautiful Amy! Both mother and son are gorgeous! Merry Christmas to all four of you.

Happy, happy, happy.....beyond all joys!!!
Excellent!!! It's always a little bit weird and dicey bringing the new kid home to the previously only child and making everything work and readjust, but it's going to be great. What a happy Christmas!! Congratulations!
Aw. What a beautiful baby! Good luck to you both.
Beautiful, Amy! Thanks so much for posting pictures. You are glowing.
