Really, people, this is a true thing, knowledge gained in my childhood: Never mock a hurricane, because it will come right back and show you whose powers are in fact laughable.

Earl's all done and the sun's out. Windy still, and, now that it's low tide, the surf is pretty spectacular out on the Selvages. We got only an inch of rain, which we needed and had hoped would be more. No flooding, though, either from the sea or the rain.… Read full post »
Rain started here at about 4:30 this morning, and John got up to close all the windows. We really haven't had a lot of rain--probably only 1/2 an inch so far--but by the time we put on rain gear and headed out at about 9, that rain was flying at us… Read full post »
It was lovely this morning here in Blanche, Nova Scotia. But as the day wore on, the skies clouded over, the haze thickened, and the breeze became cool and damp. We can hear the surf on the other side of the peninsula on which we live, way down in SW Nova… Read full post »
